Guess who has made their way to China?

And who have gotten themselves a complete make over?

Remember HKT? The most disliked group in Vietnam? How can you not after their controversy over their combined cover with HKT-M of Beast’s Mystery. They gained so many anti-fans because of it, not to mention they already had so many prior to this. It had gotten so much coverage that the video reached CUBE Entertainment and Shinsadong Tiger (song writer) themselves, in which some say they were fine with it, and were grateful that Beast’s songs has gained so much popularity.

It’s also said that the original HKT group (HKT-M formed later) has the most anti-fans in Vietnam. The reason for so much dislike towards this group is from the result of plagiarism accusations, especially from Korean songs. Despite the group stating they were doing covers of the songs, none of the anti-fan mobs accepted their excuse explanation and their dislike for the group increased. During a recent interview, the members talked about their struggles and stated it had gotten so bad that during one of HKT’s onstage performances, audience members caused them to cry on stage.

I think it’s fair to say that the fault lies within the company and management and not the boys themselves. After all, they were young and don’t know any better; their company are the ones responsible for guiding them into the right direction. But it seems the company has finally realised what a mess they’ve caused and HKT & HKT-M are back with a new and refreshing image.

ZING MP3: HKT ft. Chan Hao - Long Dau Tinh Phai

^ Great video production and they sing great! love the little interlude. Not a real big fan of their music style though; I find the music during the interlude suits their image and age more but the song is still good.

HKT-M The Five
Oh la la la MV

ZING MP3: HKT-M The Five - Oh la la la

I honestly love their new look. It’s completely fresh and a major change from their previous; I was actually in shock when I first found out. Although they still get anti-fans bashing on them saying they’re still trying to copy the “Korean look”, they’re definitely heading in a better direction. And excuse me? Korean look? Then what is considered Vietnamese look to you? Are we to be restricted to Ao Dais and Non Las?

Popularity gain in China?

While some seem to see HKT’s rise to popularity in China as a joke, they can take it as an opportunity to continue their efforts.

Chinese talk show? or the News?

Chinese Variety TV show

I don’t understand Chinese so I don’t know what they’re saying, or what the show is about. I can only hope they’re saying positive things about them. I watched other segments of the latter too. It seems like people reenact other singers and performances but that’s all I know. If you have more information, by all means, do provide them :)

It seems that their brother group HKT-M are also making quite a name for themselves in China, not only for their talents but for their cute appeal. I just hope the kids don’t get too big headed; nothing turns me off more than spoilt celebrity kids with arrogance and attitude.

HKT-M experience stardom while taking photos with audience members and fans after their performance (skip to 2:09).

What do you guys think? I actually like them. They’ve come a long way, especially after all their controversies. I’d say give HKT-M another 10 years, wait till they’ve hit puberty and for their voices to crack, and we might have something in the works! As for HKT, they’re great too. They seem like really nice, humble, and even shy guys from all the interviews I’ve watched. I just wished their company gave them better songs. Their dancing skills are exceptional so I hope they don’t lose sight of harnessing that amidst their revamping. They have great potential and I’m ecstatic for them that their company have finally come to their senses! Best of luck to them both!

November has come early this year

November Band formed back in 2011 and consists of 3 talented members; Phát Nguyễn as drummer, Nguyễn Quân as guitarist and pianist, and Đoàn Nhược Quý also as guitarist and pianist. Nhược Quý also use to be apart of a group called ADAM band back in 2010. All members also take roles of vocalists, song writers, and producers. They’ve been pretty underground playing acoustic song covers as well as their original songs at cafes and clubs around Saigon. Their music has been described as pop rock, alternate, and ballad in style which completely distinguishes themselves from conventional Vietnamese music. They released their first music video December 2012 called Come To An End (I would’ve translated it to “The Last Day” or “End of Days”), probably being inspired from the “end of the world” theories. The song itself can be described as electro dance pop rock. They’re definitely worth checking out!

‪Chất Riêng Của Tôi‬ MV

^ Her awesomeness starts at 2:08. I think this was a song promotion for a drink, maybe? But anyway, I didn’t really like the rapping from the other 2 females; it’s not the bias talking either. I just don’t think their rapping is up to par with Suboi’s and I think it comes down to their voices and rapping style; it just didn’t sound good to me.

I absolutely adore Suboi! I’ve been following her since her debut days and she just keeps getting better; she is exactly what the Vietnamese music industry needs and is looking for. She is talented and has an overload of spunk. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she has definitely brought Vietnamese rap and hip hop a new and refreshing image (those who have listened to Viet rap way back in the day would understand).

365daband show their professionalism by singing accapella when backgroundmusic goes wrong

v-entertaiment:

365daband has definitely proved their title as “Vietnam’s best boy band” by showing their accapella skills when the background music suddenly stopped working and the boys had to start improvising.

Remember Trish Thuy Trang?

Does anyone else miss singers or songs from shows like Asia, Van Son, and Paris By Night? Singers like Trish Thuy Trang, Asia 4, Chosen One, Puriti, Andy Quach, Cat Tien etc.

I do!

I will be posting up old school videos to pay tribute to these singers who have touched our childhoods (for some of us) and kept many of us entertained. And who better to start off with than Trish Thuy Trang; I’m sure every Vietnamese person has heard of her.

I was a big fan of Trish Thuy Trang. Sure she may not have had the greatest voice or singing techniques, but I still enjoyed her music and performances. What made me like her was that she was a singer, songwriter, and producer. My sister even bought her compilation dvd; the one where she gave us a tour of her house and her room - her hello kitty filled accessories drawers! Her wonderful walk in wardrobe full of clothes! Getting to see a glimpse of her life made me see that she was such a hard working and wonderful person; it definitely made me respect her a lot more.

These videos are for her :)

^ Love this song! It’s so sweet and romantic, and the lyrics are so meaningful. Definitely a wedding song :)

Trish Thuy Trang
Shooting Star

Yeah I know she has a lot more videos but I just posted some of my favourites :)

And for those of you who are wondering what she’s been up to, I’m so happy to say she’s married now, and she looked completely gorgeous on her wedding day! She’s so talented she even designed some of her wedding props. And of course, sticking to her love of Japanese orientals, you can guess what the theme was.

Congratulations to Trish on her wedding, even though it was a while ago. She even has a baby boy now!

Unique voice of Thanh Bùi

If you live in Australia, then most likely you’ve heard of his name once before. Thanh Bui was a contestant of Australian Idol Season 6 (2008) reaching as far as the top 8 finalists before being eliminated. Since then he has collaborated with many Grammy-award winning producers; travelling back and forth to L.A, Canada, and Australia; and has joined Vietnam’s Soul Entertainment in Ho Chi Minh. His first Vietnamese single, released in 2010, featured popular singer Ho Ngoc Ha and has gained much praise. Check out his singles below.
